Happy Monday! Back to our normal routine in Third Grade! Unfortunately last Friday, the Groundhog saw his shadow but in good news we are in February cruising right along into our Lenten Season.
Super Student: Timothy!
Fact of the Week: Around 190 million cards are sent on February 14th making it the second most popular holiday to send cards after Christmas.
Positive Word: Lovely!
In Reading, we are starting off our new story, "Author, A True Story." It is one of my favorite stories of Third Grade! Vocabulary quiz and story test will be next week. The new vocabulary words are talented, single, proper, excitement, acceptance, and useful. Our skill is working on author's purpose again. (Ask the students for our dance clue to remember P.I.E)
In Math, we are finishing up our study of Fractions with our test on Friday on the chapter. Be sure to review vocabulary and equivalent fractions. We are moving full speed ahead with math, continuing into the measurement chapter and then into area and perimeter! PRACTICE THOSE FACTS! They are going to be a vital part of understanding and knowing perimeter and area.
In Social Studies, we are studying innovators and inventors. The students will be assigned an inventor to research on our Harcourt book website in class to create a graphic organizer with. They will then be working with another student to create a modern-day profile between two inventors!
In Religion, we will have our chapter 10 test on Tuesday of the different types of prayer. Be sure to study and hang onto the prayer worksheet we completed in class. The students are allowed to use it on their test. We will then move into learning about the Lent chapter which starts next Wednesday- Ash Wednesday.
Be on the lookout for important notes in the Thursday Envelope this week. You are receiving one from myself and one about Valentine's Day (it will be celebrated on the 13th).
Any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Looking forward to a Fabulous week in Third Grade!
All the best,
Ms. Taff
