Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and rests up for the New Year! We have an abundance of things to be grateful for and look forward to!
Super Student: Joey!
Positive Word: Astounding!
Fact of the Week: The song Jingle Bells was written by James Pierpont in 1857. It was originally called “One Horse Open Sleigh” and was made for Thanksgiving.
In Math, we are finishing up the division chapter. We have a multiplication time test this week and well as a quiz on the division chapter this week. The quiz will be on vocabulary and modeling using different strategies to solve division equations (similar to the multiplication quiz.)
In Reading, we have our vocabulary quiz and story test this week on "Go West." Be sure to remember the 3 C's for our test (copper, crops, and cattle)! The students have post-it notes in their books to help us remember these details and why the westward expansion was so important for business in the west! Our vocabulary words are immigrant, culture, established, communities, traditional. The skill we are working on is main idea and detail!
In Social Studies, we finished reading and learning about cultures and traditions in different countries around the world in chapter 10 in our book. We are now researching different countries and how they celebrate Christmas in these specific, assigned countries. Students will be given websites to look up on the Ipads for their assigned country. We will be presenting these later this week!
In Religion, the students will be having a take-home test this Wednesday that will be due on Friday. We will then be reading about Christmas and Advent and what this time of waiting and preparation means to us.
Do not forget to be working on the Winter Book Report due on 1/12/18!
Any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me!
All the best,
Ms. Taff
