Happy Monday! This week we will celebrate Halloween on Tuesday with our classroom party in a black and orange dress down!
Super Student: Jake!
Positive Word: Spooktacular
Fact of the Week: Jack-O-Lanterns were originally carved from turnips, beets, and potatoes!
In Math, we are finishing our study of subtraction with regrouping (borrowing). We will also be starting subtracting across zeros! Next week, we are jumping right into Multiplication! The students and I are both looking forward to this next chapter. This being said, it is still very important that students be practicing their facts each and every night to become more fluent with these basic facts!
In Social Studies, we are completing a graphic organizer as we read our new lesson about Geographical Features. We are creating our own definitions, categorizing, and drawing a picture of each feature! We will then be taking our Geographical Feature graphic organizer and be using it to create a brochure of one of our National Parks.
In Religion this week, we are finishing up chapter 4 of the start of the early Catholic Church. We are completing the review pages early this week with our Chapter test on Thursday. We watched a beautiful movie on how St. Paul (who was originally named Saul) followed Jesus' mission to spread the Word to all people of all Nations. Students should know and study page 66 for their test.
In Reading, we are reading our new story "My Very Own Room." This story focuses on making predictions and confirming them. The students have a vocabulary test over these words on Tuesday. (determination, exact, storage, luckiest, ruined, separate, and storage) They will have their story test on Friday. Students should also read the story at least 2 times at home out loud to someone before Friday to work on fluency and comprehension of the story.
Any questions please feel free to contact me! Looking forward to a SPOOKTACULAR week here in third grade!
All the best,
Ms. Taff
