Good morning and happy Monday to all! I hope everyone had a nice, restful weekend (especially with our time change) and enjoyed that extra hour of sleep!
Super Student: ---
Positive Word: A baby porcupine is called a porcupette!
Fact of the Week: Superb!
In Math, we are finishing up subtraction with one of our last lessons in subtracting across zeros. We are starting multiplication on Wednesday! The students and I are very excited about this. We will be reviewing skip counting daily to help memorize facts. Students should still continue to work on memorizing and studying their addition and subtraction facts! They will be invaluable for the multiplication process. We will start by understanding multiplication and identifying the different ways there are to model and show multiplication sentences.
In Social Studies, we are collaborating with Mrs. Cour in computer class in researching about Yellowstone National Park and identifying the different physical features that can be found there. We will also be taking a virtual field trip through Yellowstone!
In Reading, we are starting our new story, Boom Town. This story works on the target skill of sequencing the events of the plot of a fiction story. The students will be creating a four-square outline of our new 6 vocabulary words (sidewalks, grumbled, wailed, traders, blossomed, lonesome). Our vocabulary and story test will be towards the end of next week.
In Religion, we jump into chapter 5 that talks about the early Christians and how they shared the Good News of Jesus. Please be sure to always be studying the highlighted parts of the Religion chapter along with the red vocabulary words throughout the chapter. Everything that is highlighted in the book, is asked in some form on the test. Students are given multiple resources to study for each chapter test in addition of it being extensively explained in our Religion classes.
Any questions, please feel free to contact me!
Looking forward to a FABULOUS week in Third Grade!
All the best,
Ms. Taff
