Good morning and happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice and warm Friday snow day. The next two weeks are four day weeks so we are going to be quite busy here in Third Grade.
Super Student:
Positive Word: charming
Fact of the Week: The candy company, Necco, created the original candy hearts, Sweethearts, in 1866.
We are celebrating Valentine's Day on Tuesday and Ash Wednesday on Wednesday of this week. We have a retreat planned for Ash Wednesday so we can prepare and remember what we need to do for Easter.
In Math, we are taking our Fractions test today and starting area and perimeter tomorrow. The students will be using rulers, graph paper, and be learning a song to remember the difference between the two. Multiplication facts are EXTREMELY important for this next chapter. The students will be having another time test this week on their next set of facts.
In Social Studies, are starting our biographies of inventors and innovators project. The students will be working on the IPADs and with Mrs. Cour in computers researching their inventor or innovator. The students will then be presenting their findings to the class. We will then be moving into our Chicago project!
In Religion, we are finishing up our Lenten chapter and moving into Chapter 11. This chapter revolves around our diocese, parish, and vocations. Students will be led on an all day retreat on Wednesday for Lent. Mrs. Berrigan and I have reflection activities planned that will help us to better understand the meaning of the Lenten Season.
In Reading, we are finishing up our story, "Author: A True Story." Our target for this story is author's purpose. The vocabulary quiz is Tuesday over the words proper, acceptance, single, talented, useful, excitement. Our story test is on Thursday. Please review with your student the three different types of reasons an author writes.
Looking forward to another great week in Third Grade!

All the best,
