Good morning and happy Monday! Finally, we had a nice full weekend of fantastic, warmer weather! Hopefully this weather sticks around! This week we have a full week of learning with an All-School Mass on Wednesday.
Fact of the Week: "Happy Birthday" was the first song transmitted from Space to Earth!
Super Student: Gavin
Positive Word: Energized!
In Reading, we are moving into our second readers and starting with our new story, "Sevens Spools of Thread." Our focus skill for this story is drawing conclusions. We will complete our new vocabulary definitions from page 8 with a vocabulary quiz set for next Wednesday, over the words beamed, argued, possessions, fabric, purchased, and quarreling. This story is a fable focused on theme and finding the moral of the story.
In Social Studies, we are comparing and contrasting what makes the Native American tribes different or the same. We will be reading an article on Read Works on the IPADs on Monday and Wednesday. The students will be answering vocabulary and content questions and submitting them virtually. This is a great starting article that will lead us into our activity for the next two weeks filling out different types of graphic organizers comparing and contrasting the different dwellings of the Native Americans.
In Religion, we are finishing Family Life. The students will put all the worksheets together to have a culminating booklet of the topics discussed over these ten chapters. We will then be moving into chapter 15 which discusses all the different sacraments. There is no test on Family life.
In Math, we have our chapter 14 geometry test on Tuesday. The students should study the worksheet and bring it back for points then next day. They should also study the review pages that were handed back today in their file folders, pages 877-880. We will then jump back to chapter 11, measurement. We will be going through the different types of measurement when measuring liquid, capacity, time, and length. There will not be a test on this chapter. Next week, we will then move into organizing data into many different types of graphs. There will be a test on chapter 12 in the coming weeks. The students took a time test last week and overall the scores were okay. The students' homework since October was to practice their facts 15 minutes daily. There will be another time test next week where hopefully the score will be even better!
Any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Looking forward to a FABULOUS week in Third Grade!
All the best,
Miss Taff
