Good morning and happy Monday! This week is a busy week here in third grade since we are winding down to the end here..... The students will be receiving their summer reading assignment for 4th grade very soon. So be on the lookout for that. Grandparent's and Special Friend's Day is on May 22nd. We are busy practicing for our Disney theme. Be sure to check in with your student on props or accessories they may need to bring in. Students are also receiving a note about returning their Science and Language Arts books that were kept at home for the year. The books need to be returned by 5/30/18.
Positive Word: Astutely!
Fact of the Week: Food passes through the Giant Squid's brain on the way to its stomach!
For the remainder of the year, every day in Rm. 13 we are celebrating one of our classmates as a reflection on our third grade year together and a countdown until 4th grade! Our celebrated student of the day gets to be the line leader, sit at the VIP table, and gets special shoutouts from our classmates. Be sure to check out the pictures under the tab 'Spotlight Work' to see all the wonderful celebrations so far!
In math, we are finishing our review and study of measuring time, capacity, and mass. We will then move into our final chapter of reading, writing, creating, and analyzing different graphs. The students always have fun with this chapter! We are having our penultimate time test this week. Their best score on all the time tests, will be the one that is recorded as the grade. Their final time test score will also be a final grade.
In Social studies, we are studying the Plains Native Americans and the Plateau Native Americans this week. The students will fill out a graphic organizer for each region after reading a short article and watching a video clip on each. Their final projects will be the final grade for Social Studies.
In Religion, the students have their chapter 15 test tomorrow on the sacraments. The students are allowed to use their study guide on the test tomorrow. However, they still need to review the highlights in the book and study the vocabulary throughout the chapter. The students will need to turn in their study guide with their test tomorrow to receive the right amount of points.
In Reading, we are finishing our story of "Nacho and Lolita." This is my favorite story of Third Grade!! Our focus skill is identifying the theme supporting it with details from the story. This story uses personification. The students will be creating a life size version of the bird Nacho writing facts and important details from the story on it. The vocabulary quiz is Wednesday on the words brilliance, guarantee, pleaded, preparations, exhausted, affection. The story test will be Friday. We will have one more story before the end of the year.
