Happy Monday! Finally testing is over and we are ready to continue on towards the end of the year and into 4th grade! I wanted to thank all the parents and guardians who helped made their student's testing experience a positive and meaningful one! I know they truly appreciated it!
Super Student: Gavin!
Positive Word: Invigorating!
Fact of the Week: Iceland doesn't only have Earthquakes; it also has Icequakes!
In Math, we are finishing geometry. Since we started geometry before break and Aspire, we need amble time to review. Therefore, the geometry test will be on Tuesday, April 24th. We are going to do practice worksheets and stations as well as review some of the lessons from the beginning of the chapter for a review. The students are having a multiplication test on Thursday for facts 0-10. Students have had to practice their facts for 15 minutes a day since late October. We have reviewed strategies in class and now need to put them into use. Students can practice using an App, a computer game, writing out the facts, quizzing orally with an older sibling or adult, or using flashcards. They were not limited to just one way.
In Social Studies, we are reviewing the dwellings of the Native Americans. Students will be filling out a graphic organizer that compares and contrasts the different, major tribes. Students will then be completing a STEM project where they will have to design a Native American dwelling for their region using only certain materials!
In Reading, we have our vocabulary quiz on Wednesday over the words expensive, potential, wrapping, politely, annual, innocent. Our story test is on Friday focusing on the skill inferencing. Students should read this story two times out loud to someone at home by Friday. It is a lengthier story this time around. We have worked on inferencing with a short, silent film where the students had to infer. We had a great time watching and inferring during the film! We will then start our next story on Monday in our second reader, "Seven Spools of Thread."
In Religion, we will be covering chapters 5-10 in our Family Life book. We will then create a booklet combining all of our study throughout the ten chapters. The students are invited to discuss at home what make families different, the same, and how they all contribute to God's plan and creation. Students have asked questions that we answer and discuss in class but are ultimately encouraged to take them home too and discuss with a parent or guardian about the makeup of families.
Looking forward to a FABULOUS week here in Third Grade.
Any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
All the best,
Miss Taff
